Here’s what happened yesterday in the IND vs SL 2nd Test: India piled up 503/9 declared, with Dhruv Jurel finishing unbeaten on 115 after Rishabh Pant's quickfire 63. In reply, Sri Lanka lost Lahiru Udara and Prabath Jayasuriya early and ended Day 2 on 8/2, still trailing India by 495 runs.

The heated exchange between Yashasvi Jaiswal and Asitha Fernando on Day 1 of the second Test has now resulted in ICC action. After Jaiswal smashed the Sri Lankan pacer for three consecutive fours, Asitha bounced back by dismissing the India opener off the very next ball. What followed was an aggressive send-off and a face-to-face confrontation between the two players.

Both Jaiswal and Asitha have now been fined 25% of their match fees and handed one demerit point each for inappropriate physical contact.

Rain caused a delay of more than two hours just before tea on Monday, and the weather could remain a concern on Tuesday as well. According to AccuWeather, Colombo is expected to see showers in the morning and rain again in the afternoon, with a 92% chance of precipitation.

Right then, we are back for live action in Colombo as Day 3 gets underway! Pasindu Sooriyabandara is the new man at No. 4 for Sri Lanka after Prabath Jayasuriya was dismissed just before stumps on Monday.

Prasidh Krishna has the ball in hand for the opening over of the day, but Sri Lanka get off to a positive start, collecting 12 runs from it.

India have their third wicket of the morning! Prasidh Krishna goes back to the short ball, and Kamil Mishara cannot handle the extra bounce. The left-hander attempts an awkward fend, gets a glove on it, and Dhruv Jurel completes the catch behind the stumps.

Mishara departs for 19 off 25 balls, and Prasidh now has 2 wickets.

Drinks On Day 3! Sri Lanka have added 50 runs this morning, though they lost Kamil Mishara along the way. Pasindu Sooriyabandara has looked composed in only his second Test innings, while Kamindu Mendis has settled in well at the other end.

India have struggled to create too many chances, with Gill using just three bowlers so far. Prasidh Krishna provided the breakthrough, bouncing out Mishara with a well-directed short ball.

Sri Lanka Closing In On 100! A productive over for the hosts as Pasindu Sooriyabandara and Kamindu Mendis continue to build a solid partnership. Sooriyabandara moves to 45, while Kamindu is unbeaten on 26, with Manav Suthar conceding 11 runs in the over.

Jadeja starts with one at 91.8kph, attacking the off stump. Mendis gets right behind the line and calmly defends it back. No fuss.

Mendis is out, and he can hardly believe it. Prasidh Krishna delivers when India needed a breakthrough, with a 135kph short ball that Mendis looks to pull. He gets neither the elevation nor the placement he wanted, sending it straight to Ravindra Jadeja at mid-wicket.

A promising partnership is cut short, and the timing makes it even more painful for Sri Lanka, the wicket comes just before lunch.

Sri Lanka head into lunch at 130/4 after a lively morning session. Pasindu Sooriyabandara and Kamindu Mendis had put India under pressure with an 87-run stand, but Prasidh Krishna returned to break the partnership with Mendis’ wicket just before the interval.

Sooriyabandara has brought up his maiden Test fifty and remains unbeaten on 32, giving Sri Lanka hope of a strong post-lunch session.

The umpires are in the middle inspecting the conditions. They’ve noticed a few damp patches, which they’ve asked the groundstaff to work on. Most of the covers are off, so we are not far away from resumption. Start time: 1:10 pm

After a 30-minute delay, play resumes in Colombo for the post-lunch session. The players are back out in the middle, with the overhead conditions still looking a little gloomy.

That could offer some assistance to the pacers later, but India begin the session with spin. Manav Suthar has the ball, with a slip and silly point in place.

Suthar Gets The Sri Lanka Captain! India strike soon after the resumption! Manav Suthar gets one to grip and turn, and Dhananjaya de Silva can only find the edge. The ball deflects off Dhruv Jurel's gloves, but KL Rahul stays alert at slip and completes a sharp catch after a couple of attempts.

Suthar picks up his second wicket, and Sri Lanka have lost half their side.

Jadeja Gets The Set Batter! A huge breakthrough for India as Ravindra Jadeja ends Pasindu Sooriyabandara’s impressive stay at the crease! The left-hander looked set for a maiden Test century, but a tentative push at a fuller delivery produces a thick inside edge.

The ball ricochets off his back thigh and rolls back onto the stumps. Sooriyabandara departs for a well-made 80 off 133 balls.

Siraj Finally Gets His Reward! Mohammed Siraj joins the wicket column as Niroshan Dickwella departs for a three-ball duck. The Sri Lankan keeper gets a faint tickle on a short delivery down the leg side, and Dhruv Jurel takes a sharp low catch behind the stumps.

India firmly in control as SL still trail by 330 runs.

Steady Going For Sri Lanka! The scoring has slowed down as Ravindra Jadeja keeps things tight from one end. Sonal Dinusha and Keshara Nuwantha are trying to dig in and extend Sri Lanka’s innings.

Suthar starts the over with a tidy one on middle and leg. Dinusha clips it into the leg side, but there’s no run on offer.

India dominated the session, picking up three wickets to leave Sri Lanka 216/7 at tea, still 287 runs behind. Suthar removed Dhananjaya de Silva early, while Jadeja broke the Sooriyabandara-Dinusha stand just as it was gathering pace, before Siraj trapped Dickwella for a duck.

But Dinusha and Keshara Nuwantha have dug in, with Dinusha bringing up a fifty and the pair frustrating India with a stubborn eighth-wicket stand.

Jain gets this one to straighten sharply from round the wicket, but Nuwantha reads it well. He goes deep in his crease, gets right behind the ball and blocks it safely into the pitch. Another dot ball as Jain keeps the pressure on.

Jain ends the over with a couple of close calls. At 69.5, he tosses one up around off and gets Kumara reaching for a defensive push, with the ball turning away to take the edge, but it drops safely short and wide of Sarfaraz at gully.

Then, at 69.6, there is more turn, though the length is slightly short and it spins past Kumara’s tentative poke. Two dot balls to finish the over, but Jain has certainly made things happen.

Saransh Jain tosses this one up on off, inviting Lahiru Kumara to play at it. The Sri Lankan No. 10 stays compact, gets right behind the ball and defends firmly off the back foot. Another dot as Jain keeps the pressure on.

The players have just taken drinks, and Sri Lanka continues to put up a gritty resistance led once again by the find of the series, Sonal Dinusha. The diminutive left-hander has dug in deeply, frustrating the Indian bowling attack with support from Keshara Nuwantha and pace bowler Lahiru Kumara. With the innings winding down into its latter stages, India remains well on top and will sense an opening to wrap up the tail with the second new ball just around the corner.

The heavens have opened up, forcing the ground staff to rush onto the field with the covers. The players are off, the fourth umpire is patrolling with an umbrella, and a heavy blanket of dark clouds overhead suggests that this might be it for the day's play.

Stumps have been called on Day 3 with Sri Lanka showing immense grit to add 257 runs for the loss of 6 wickets, though India still holds a commanding 238-run lead. The hosts' resistance was anchored by debutant concussion substitute Pasindu Sooriyabandara—who compiled a solid 80 before falling to Ravindra Jadeja—and Sonal Dinusha, who continued his stellar form from Galle to notch his third consecutive 50-plus score in as many innings.
