A thrashing at home at the hands of Newcastle United did little to appease an already frustrated Manchester United fanbase, which is slowly turning on manager Erik ten Hag. Ten Hag's side lost their fifth home game of the season - of the ten they have played at the time of writing - unceremoniously matching a record that goes back almost a century. (More Football News)

Manchester United trailed by two before the interval after Miguel Almiron and Lewis Hall had given the Magpies the lead. Any hopes of a remarkable comeback were squashed by Joe Willock's strike on the hour, pushing the Red Devils further down the spiral they recently have found themselves in. The defeat puts further pressure on Ten Hag after his team's disastrous start to the campaign. However, the Dutchman came out fighting in his post-match presser, reiterating that he can turn things around.

“So I am a fighter and I know it is not always going to go up and we have a lot of setbacks this season,” said Ten Hag. “But also you have to deal with it and that is never an excuse.

“I have said that before. I know when there are setbacks but even then you have to get results. Sunday [and] tonight was far from that so we have to do things right at a certain level, the minimum level to win games.”

When quizzed about the noise surrounding his position, the Dutchman had this to say: “I understand it when the results are not there it is also a logical process that they are questioning that. But I am confident I can do it. At all my clubs I have done it and also last year here I did it as well, but at this moment we are in a bad place. I take responsibility for it."
