When Eight Actresses Meet
Back celebrating the spirit of Indian dance is the 7th edition of the Nakshatra Dance Festival, with performances of Bharatanatyam, Odissi, Manipuri martial arts and Kathak. The nine-day event, which endeavours to bring together renowned dance troupes from around the country, will begin with a workshop on ‘Ashtanayikas’, followed by ‘Nritya Darshan’, by Padmabhushan awardees the Dhananjayans, and an Odissi presentation by Ratikant Mohapatra’s Srajan Institute. The highlight of the festival is Torobaka—an amalgamation of the dance styles of Kathak dancer Akram Khan and Flamenco dancer Israel Galvan; and a unique acrobatic presentation Thangta and Pung Cholam by the Jawaharlal Nehru Manipuri Dance Academy. What The Iranian man, also labelled the world’s dirtiest man, has refused to take a bath for over 60 years and has put it down, rather disarmingly, to ‘emotional setbacks’.
Why The unenviable and unverified record was earlier held by an Indian man, Kailash Singh, who had gone 38 years without cleaning up at last count. But Haji, 80, has licked him him handsomely. And it’s not just cleanliness, rotten animal meat forms his diet and burning his locks is the equivalent of a haircut. Scarily, he had been kidnapped once—his captors wanted to give him a bath. Thankfully for him, he escaped, earned himself a ‘record’, and gave us this unappetising little nugget.

Cure Toothaches
Ah, pesky toothaches. Ice is often a go-to cure but we suggest something different. A Canadian study says that rubbing ice on the back of your hand on the V-shaped area between the thumb and the forefinger can reduce the pain considerably. The bottom of the v-shaped area is said to contain nerve pathways that block pain signals from the face and hands. Also, if you thought warm saltwater was the remedy for sore throats, swishing a bit of it in your mouth helps toothaches too.

Showcasing the many wondrous ways of water-colours is Aquarelles, a solo exhibition by Rajat Subhra Bandopadhyay. On display are more than 100 watercolours, divided into two sections created especially for the season, and which use both paper and canvas. About A Dark Horse
Playing for the first time in Goa, and the third time in India, is jazz maestro Igor Butman and his quartet—saxophone, drums, double bass and piano. This time around, Jus’ Jazz and Butman are set to introduce the audience to a sensation—the blind pianist and vocalist Oleg Akkuratov.
