This local incarnation of a traditional middle-eastern import is a big favourite with everyone during the Muslim month of fasting. So, the postal department has decided to tie up with Pista House—which cooks up the city’s best-loved haleem—to have it delivered all over the city through 20 of its post offices. If the scheme takes off, another 20 will be added to the list.
So this Ramzan, instead of weaving through the notorious traffic of the Old City to get to Pista House, Hyderabadis will have the luxury of booking their haleem in advance and having it delivered piping hot at the neighbourhood post office.
The postal department hit upon this novel take-away innovation following its taste of success delivering prasad from the Kanakadurga temples of Vijaywada and Bhadrachalam last year. The department used Speed Post to reach some 80,000 packets of prasadam to devotees across the state, earning it Rs 24 lakh in additional revenue.
