Special Protection Group's Longest Serving Chief Arun Kumar Sinha Dies At 61

Arun Kumar Sinha, a 1987 batch Kerala cadre IPS Officer, was serving as Special Protection Group (SPG) Director since 2016. Previously, he served as DCP Commissioner, Range IG, Intelligence IG and Administration IG in Thiruvananthapuram.

In an untoward incident, the longest serving Director of the Special Protection Group (SPG), Arun Kumar Sinha, passed away at a hospital in Gurugram early Wednesday. It has been reported that 61-year-old Sinha, a 1987 batch Kerala cadre IPS Officer, had been unwell for the past few months.

Sinha was serving as SPG Director since 2016 and was recently awarded an extension in the service. Previously, he served as DCP Commissioner, Range IG, Intelligence IG and Administration IG in Thiruvananthapuram.

Back in 1985, The Special Protection Group (SPG) was constituted to provide proximate security cover to the Prime Minister, former Prime Ministers and their immediate family members.

Later, their mandate was amended and they now only provide security cover to the prime minister of the day.
