Earn Your Heritage

Can Agra be declared a heritage city? It may have the Taj Mahal, the Agra Fort and other world-famous monuments but the Centre made it clear to the Supreme Court that the city cannot be developed since the ills caused by decades of poor planning cannot be corrected. In 1996, the SC had asked the government if Agra could be given the heritage city status. But after a detailed study the Archaeological Survey of India concluded that the problems—poor roads, pollution, and the haphazard growth of industries—cannot be addressed.
