In connection with Aam Admi Party (AAP) filing a petition in the Supreme Court against a High Court order acquitting six accused in 1984 anti-Sikh riots case, Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena has finally given his approval.

Following this development, the AAP-led Delhi government's Home Department will now be filing the plea in the apex court against the July 10 High Court judgment, which had dismissed the government’s appeal against the trial court verdict, acquitting all the accused.

The six accused in the case are Hari Lal, Mangal, Dharampal, Azad, Om Prakash and Abdul Habib.

What did LG Saxena observe?

Considering the matter to be of grave concern, LG Saxena inferred that such cases of crime against humanity are dealt with in a very casual and routine manner.

On Tuesday, he also emphasised on the fact that inordinate and avoidable delays in such cases should be taken into consoderation seriously and stringent action needs to be taken against the officials.

Moreover, Saxena also directed the Home Department to identify and fix the responsibility of erring officials responsible for causing a delay in filing the appeal before the Delhi High Court in this case and submit the report within seven days.

In a similar case, the Lt Governor had earlier accorded approval for filing the plea in the Supreme Court against the acquittal of twelve people in another anti-Sikh riots case registered in the Nangloi police station.
