The 18th Solheim Cup started on September 22 and ended on Sunday, September 24. It is a women's format of the Ryder Cup, consisting of 12 players on each team. Over the course of 3 days, 28 matches will be played. The Solheim Cup is played biennially between women professional golfers from the United States and Europe.

Spain the gracious host of the games
The competition is being held at Finca Cortesin in Casares, Andalusia, Spain. Spain is hosting the competition for the first time. It is considered the largest course in Europe and the best in Spain. It is spread over 7,500 yards with 72 layouts. The last match was held at the Inverness Club in 2021 in the US, where Europe defeated the US team 15-13. In the history of the Solheim Cup, the US team has emerged victorious 10 out of 17 times since 1990. However, the European team has shown its prowess since 2017, winning consecutively. This year, Europe aims to secure victory and achieve their first hat trick win.

The division of matches
The matches are divided into three categories: foursomes, fourballs, and singles. Four foursomes and four fourballs matches are scheduled for Friday and Saturday. Points are awarded based on the team that scores the lowest on each hole. The victory will be called when the advantaged team has more points than the number of holes left to play on the course. On the third day, all 24 competitors will have the opportunity to play in singles matches, with 12 players from each team competing against each other. The team that reaches 14.5 points first will be declared the winner of the Solheim Cup.

What has the US got in store for the game
The US team is playing under the captainship of Stacy Lewis for the first time, while Suzann Pettersen, who hails from Norway, is leading the European team for the first time. The European team appears confident and strong, having won the last two competitions and enjoying the advantage of playing at home. The US captain also acknowledged this edge of the opponent team.

The competition is exclusively broadcast live on Sky Sports.
