In Season 10, Phil surprises Alex during her time at university. To his astonishment, he discovers that she has won a prestigious award and has kept it a secret from him and she is attempting to distance him because she fears he might embarrass her in front of her academic peers. But, Alex experiences a change of heart and joins Phil at a bar. Phil, being Phil, decides that there's still ample time to enjoy life and introduces her to a lively trivia game complete with funny hats and accents. 3. You're finding your own way
In season six, episode two, Phil, Haley, and Luke find themselves involved in a social experiment. The experiment revolves around a decision: whether or not to press a button that explicitly states, "Do not push." Haley initially leans towards not pushing the button, and in the process, she expresses her frustration, feeling like a colossal failure. Phil steps in with words of encouragement, assuring her that she possesses talent and worth just like anyone else. He tells her,  "Who cares if you don't fit into their little box? You're finding your way."

4. Heartbreaks are okay!
In the ninth episode of the second season, Haley goes through her first heartbreak as she and Dylan decide to end their relationship. Witnessing her upset, Phil steps in to provide comfort and he says,"I know it hurts now, sweetheart, but that's how you know it was a relationship worth having."

From his quirky "Phil's-osophy" to his willingness to face his fears for the sake of his kids, Phil Dunphy is a shining example of what it means to be an amazing sitcom dad. He holds a special place in our hearts because of his special combination of silliness, love, and sincerity.
