Microblogging site X, formerly known as Twitter, experienced a significant technical glitch around 11 am today, resulting in users worldwide seeing 'Welcome to your timeline' instead of regular tweets on both the website and mobile application. Over 70,000 reports were registered on the outage tracker site Downdetector, indicating widespread disruption.
The cause of the issue remains undisclosed at this time, though some users noted the ability to view ads and their own tweets on their profiles during the outage. Concerned users turned to Facebook to share their experiences, with discussions revolving around the app's functionality. Interestingly, the outage did not affect Spaces, a live streaming feature within the app, where users gathered to discuss the situation.

Rumors circulating on Spaces suggested Elon Musk's alleged delay in covering infrastructure bills might be the cause, adding an element of speculation to the situation. Despite the downtime, the hashtag 'TwitterDown' trended on social media.
This incident marks a recurrence, as X faced downtime in March and July of the same year. In July, Downdetector reported over 13,000 instances of X being down in the US and the UK. Users recounted receiving the message "Sorry, you are rate limited. Please wait a few moments then try again."
