The Israeli military on Tuesday asserted that it intercepted a missile launched by the Houthi rebels in Yemen. The hypersonic ballistic missile triggered sirens in central Israel, Jerusalem and nearby areas.

According to a statement issued by the Israeli military, "Following the sirens that sounded a short while ago in several areas in Israel, a missile launched from Yemen was intercepted.”

The missile marks a third strike conducted by the Iran-backed group in the past two days. According to the group’s military spokesperson Yahya Saree, the missile was directed towards the Ben Gurion airport that is located near Tel Aviv, as reported by Reuters.

The missile attacks were followed by Israel’s retaliation hitting Houthi infrastructure. Israel had conducted the attack in response to the military group’s offensive on Ben Gurion airport earlier.

The Houthi rebels have been launching attacks at Israel in solidarity with Palestine. The Houthis form part of Iran’s Axis of Resistance to counter US and Israeli interests in the middle east. Hamas and Hezbollah are also a part of the axis.
