President Droupadi Murmu on Saturday emphasised that ensuring equitable access to quality healthcare is a collective responsibility of both public and private stakeholders.
She was speaking after inaugurating Yashoda Medicity at Indirapuram in Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh.
The President said that healthcare is an integral part of nation-building, adding that “protecting people from disease and improving their health is a priority for the government.” She noted that the government has been continuously expanding health and medical infrastructure, institutions, and services across the country to achieve this objective.
“All such efforts will certainly contribute to building a healthy and developed India,” Murmu said. Stressing the importance of collaboration, she added, “Apart from the government, all other stakeholders will also play a crucial role in these efforts. Therefore, it is the responsibility of all stakeholders to expand healthcare services and ensure that quality services are available in all areas of the country and that no citizen is deprived of effective healthcare.”
Murmu also underscored that fulfilling social responsibility along with medical responsibility should be a priority for healthcare institutions. She expressed confidence that Yashoda Medicity would realise its mission of providing “affordable world-class healthcare services to all.”
The President urged the institution to contribute actively to national campaigns related to sickle cell anaemia, and encouraged the hospital’s stakeholders to undertake research and collaborate with other institutions for the treatment of cancer.
With the support of excellent healthcare institutions in both the private and government sectors, India will gain greater recognition as a global healthcare destination, she added.
