Sapthaa Records Making Waves In South Indian Film Industry

Sapthaa Records , a sound studio in Kochi that offers state-of-the-art facilities, is making waves in the South Indian film industry. Quite a few films have come out of the studio including the critically acclaimed Kanthara, Drishyam 2 and Jagame Thanthiram and most of them are superhits. Being the country’s first studio to offer Dolby Atmos music mix facility and providing top quality audio, filmmakers already consider this one a lucky charm! Founded by Kishan Mohan, a sound engineer turned musician who has vast experience in working in the Los Angeles with Hollywood, Spanish and English composers, Sapthaa is a place that offers all facilities required for audio production, be it music, mixing, dubbing or editing. So far, the studio has been part of almost 150 films including Hridayam, Thuramukham, internationally acclaimed Bhoothakaalam, One, Joji, Operation Java and Kuruppu.  

Sapthaa is the first studio in South India to own Dolby Atmos HE facility and also the first in the city with Dolby Atmos mixing stage, says the proud owner, Kishan Mohan. The studio has multiple divisions, each dedicated to various purposes. Sapthaa Records is a dream place for music composers as it provides facilities for music production, programming, arrangement and mixing. Meanwhile, Sapthaa Voices has facilities for recording, mixing, dubbing and editing, an inevitable process for film production. There is also Atmos with MTRX equipment for next generation films. Sapthaa also has working partnership with the majors in the industry including Sun Pictures, Disney and Dolby.  

Apart from the advanced facilities, Sapthaa also runs an institute - Sapthaa Institute of Film Technologies (SIFT), that majorly focuses on providing training in Dolby Atmos mixing unit, pro tools, Dolby pre-mix suites, mentorship, music production and engineering, sound design and engineering, digital cinematography with colour grading and postmodern software. The institute is unique in many ways and is designed to provide ‘work and study’ model of training.  

According to Kishan Mohan, top-notch and contemporary equipment are arranged in Sapthaa's DI suites, Atmos Dolby Vision HDR suites and Barco 4K projection suites. The studio also has Atmos HE facility suitable for OTT and home theatres. It is also equipped with facilities for sound design, production sound services, foley effects/editing, mixing mastering, music production, programming and arrangement.
