The promos of YPD made it seem that the film is a mad spoof, one in which the three Deols sportingly crack jokes at themselves and we laugh along. YPD, however, is only half way successful in keeping that promise. The tale of two conmen and their long-lost NRI son/brother has the most unfunny, dull and dreary first half. Then the jokes and gags are unleashed rapid-fire post-interval. A similar lack of balance shows in performances. Sunny grabs all attention, Bobby is totally colourless and one feels sorry for Dharmendra to be reduced to doing inanities. The film actually belongs to Anupam Kher as the trigger-happy sardar and TV artiste Sucheta Khanna as ‘Caneda’ expert village belle.
