Annu Kapoor: I Am Not A Superstar And Had To Work Very Hard To Prove My Worth In The Industry

Annu Kapoor is currently gearing up for the release of 'The Last Envelope'. It also stars Sheeba Chaddha. The film will be screened at JioCinema Film Fest on October 12. Ahead of the release of 'The Last Envelope', Garima Das of Outlook India had a conversation with the veteran actor where he spoke about his journey in the industry, his statement on not being a 'superstar and a lot more.

Reflecting on his journey of more than four decades now, Kapoor said he has a lot of frustrations and respect. ''I never wanted to become an actor and I am not one of those blessed people whose dreams are fulfilled or they can achieve. That's okay. The film industry is part and parcel of Indian society. So, anything related to cinema or their branches has lots of scope for people to earn money, name and fame in this country,'' said the actor. 

Earlier, in an interview, Annu Kapoor said that he is not Amitabh Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan or Salman Khan. He called himself a 'very small and struggling actor'. When asked why he said that, the 'Dream Girl 2' actor said, ''Because I am not a superstar and I had to slog a lot and work very hard to prove my worth in the film industry. Because unfortunately, it's the typical sign of a success-oriented society where one is evaluated and assessed by sheer social success rather than talent.''

He added, ''So, Amitabh Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan, Aamir Khan or Akshay Kumar, they are superstars. God bless them and I am not a superstar as simple as that. Nothing wrong with that. You cannot call me a sinner and you can't say that since I am not a star, that's why I will go to hell and they are the stars, so they have every right to go to paradise''.

''This is not an important subject for me. I don't have the time and inclination to dwell upon this subject. It's not very relevant or significant for my existence. As long as I am not harmful to society or my country, I have every right to express my views and opinions,'' Kapoor said further.  

When asked about the harsh reality of the industry, he laughed and said, ''Everything is free determined whether you will achieve or become successful after doing hard work or you will be a flop man even after doing the hard work. Film industry is part and parcel of Indian society. Cinema has tremendous influence not only now but even 50 years back also. And especially now in this era of where we are moving ahead with technological advance, so we have various branches for all the youngsters to earn money and fame. Indian society in this matter has become very benevolent and has left that conservativeness that they had a couple of decades back. Now we have accepted lovingly and fondly heroines like Sunny Leone or Jacqueline Fernandez. In this matter Indian society has moved forward and that's good.''
