Congress MP Shashi Tharoor’s tweet punning on the surname of the newly crowned Miss World 2017, Manushi Chhillar, has not upset the Haryana girl. Chillar herself has taken to Twitter to respond to the controversy.

“A girl who has just won the World isn’t going to be upset over a tongue-in-cheek remark. ‘Chillar’ talk is just small change - let’s not forget the ‘chill’ within Chhillar,” said the 20-year-old medical student, who has become the new household name in India, while responding to the controversy. She also tagged Tharoor in her tweet with a smiley.

Chillar’s tweet came as a reply to Times of India Managing Director Vineet Jain’s tweet in which he had said we need to learn to be more tolerant towards light hearted humour, referring to Tharoor’s controversial tweet on Chillar. “I saw @ShashiTharoor tweet regarding @ManushiChhillar . I wasn’t offended even though she is a times girl,” Jain said in his tweet tagging Tharoor and Chillar.

“Exactly @vineetjaintimes agree with you on this,” Chillar replied to Jain. Earlier, Tharoor had invited social media backlash after he tweeted comparing Manushi's surname to 'loose change' and used the opportunity to attack central government’s demonetisation move.

"What a mistake to demonetise our currency! BJP should have realised that Indian cash dominates the globe: look, even our Chhillar has become Miss World!" Tharoor had tweeted.

Following this, the National Commission of Women (NCW) had summoned Tharoor saying that his tweet was 'derogatory and degrading'. Haryana Women and Child Development Minister Kavita Jain also sought an apology from Tharoor saying he had "indulged in callous and reckless wordplay on new Miss World".

Taking the conversation with Chhillar ahead on Twitter, Vineet Jain tweeted, “Haha. Now that was funny. You are the most deserving queen of the world and you are surely chilled out.”

Later, Tharoor also replied to Chhilar, saying, "You're a class act, @ManushiChhillar! Beautiful, smart & uncommonly gracious too. Still, if any offence was caused to any member of your family, sincere apologies. Like every Indian, I'm proud of you."
