Maruti Suzuki has opened pre-launch bookings for the new Wagon R 2019, which is set to launch on 23 January 2019. A minimum booking amount of Rs 11,000 is set for the new WagonR. Besides this, Maruti Suzuki has also revealed new details of the upcoming car.

Will be based on the same platform as the Ignis, Swift
The new WagonR will be bigger than the older version and will be based on the Heartect platform, which also underpins the Ignis and Swift. Maruti Suzuki has now officially teased the front of the WagonR in a new image, although a previous online leak had revealed it completely on the inside and out.
Engine, transmission options, variant details now officially confirmed
The new WagonR will be available in three variants, L, V and Z, and there will be two engines on offer: 1.0-litre and 1.2-litre. Both the engines will be paired with a manual transmission as well as an AMT (automated manual transmission).

The smaller 1.0-litre engine will be available in L and V variants, but AMT option will be available on the V variant only. The 1.2-litre engine will be available in V and Z variants with manual transmission and AMT on offer for both.
Maruti Suzuki is yet to reveal the specifications, but thanks to a previous leak, we already know that the 1.0-litre engine will make 68PS of maximum power, while the 1.2-litre motor will be good for 83PS.
Standard safety kit won’t include passenger-side airbag
Maruti Suzuki has revealed that the new WagonR would get driver airbag, ABS with EBD, front seat belts reminder, speed alert system and rear parking sensors as standard. Like its primary rival, the Hyundai Santro, Maruti Suzuki has opted to not offer a passenger-side airbag as standard.
Top variant will get SmartPlay infotainment system
A previous spy image of the new WagonR revealed that it would get a touchscreen infotainment system, and now Maruti Suzuki has confirmed that it would offer its SmartPlay system with the new WagonR, most likely to be available on the top-spec variant only. While on all other Maruti Suzuki cars that get the SmartPlay, this system supports Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and MirrorLink, the carmaker is yet to confirm connectivity options for the SmartPlay infotainment system on the Wagon R. Going by the official image, it looks like both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto will not be on offer on the new Wagon R.

Prices of the new WagonR will be announced on 23 January 2019. We expect them to start from around Rs 4.2 lakh and go up to Rs 5.5 lakh (ex-showroom).
