DENNIS LILLEE (Australia): While the Aussies are very strong, local conditions will suit the co-hosts—India, Pakistan and Sri Lanka.

DR ALI BACHER (South Africa): One-day cricket needs a bit of luck, but we have as good a chance as any. Australia and India should be our strongest opponents.

ASIF IQBAL (Pakistan): Finalists: Australia and Pakistan; winner: Australia; why: reliably learnt that the Australian team are going to offer Pakistan's top two performers $50,000 each to play poorly!

GLENN TURNER (New Zealand): There are no favourites. All I can say is that India and Pakistan will be playing under favourable conditions.

ALVIN KALLICHARAN (West Indies): On form, it has to be Australia. But I'm a West Indian, after all. So I have to say the West Indies also stand a great chance.
