La Liga 2022-23: Barcelona Win First League Title Since 2019, This Time Sans Lionel Messi - In Pics

Since Lionel Messi's departure, Barcelona have had to wade through tough times, but their persistence paid off on Sunday, as they secured their first La Liga title since 2019 with a 4-2 win over Espanyol. Robert Lewandowski struck the net twice in his team's win. Things, however, turned ugly, as the celebrations had to be cut short due to Espanyol fans entering the pitch and charging towards the Catalan players. Security guards were quick to interject, preventing any untoward incident. Other scorers for Barcelona were Alejandro Balde and Jules Koundé. Barcelona now have 27 League titles to their name, which is eight less than their archrivals Real Madrid. Messi joined Barcelona for the 2004-05 season and won the title that year. Their first title without Messi, though, came in January with the Spanish Super Cup triumph.
