Tejaswin Shankar, the national record holder in men's high jump, on Thursday became the first-ever Indian to win a Commonwealth Games medal in the event. The 23-year-old from Delhi jumped 2.22m in Birmingham 2022 on day 6 to claim the bronze medal. Hamish Kerr of New Zealand and Brandon Starc of Australia took gold and silver, respectively. Brandon, the defending champion, is the younger brother of Aussie cricketer Mitchell Starc. Manpreet Kaur, who competed in the women's shot put, finished 12th with a best throw of 15.59.
