Former Formula One driver Vitantonio Liuzzi believes Lewis Hamilton's move to Ferrari will eventually prove fruitful, despite his initial struggles to settle in.

Hamilton made his blockbuster move to the Scuderia at the start of the season after 12 years with Mercedes.

The 40-year-old is a seven-time world champion, but won his most recent title back in 2020, his fourth consecutive triumph in a dominant period.

Since joining Ferrari, Hamilton is yet to finish on a podium, with his best finish being fourth, which he managed at the Emilia-Romagna, Austrian and British Grand Prix.

Hamilton is currently sixth in the drivers' standings on 103 points, 16 behind Ferrari team-mate Charles Leclerc and 131 behind current leader Oscar Piastri.

Despite Hamilton's problems in adapting to Ferrari, Liuzzi, who competed in F1 for seven years, thinks a change in mindset could help the Brit to settle in.

"Hamilton's signing was a mediatic event as well as an economic operation," Liuzzi told Stats Perform. "He also brought value within the team.

"Let's not forget that Hamilton is the goat of F1. He is one of the greatest F1 champions. It is not just a commercial move. Lewis' main problem is to get used to a different mindset other than the English one.

"He is struggling in communicating with the team; you can hear his radio conversations with engineers. The feeling is not there yet. The marriage is yet to be consolidated.

"Furthermore, the car struggles very often. So, there are many factors which are not helping this marriage. But I believe the move was right and will pay off in the future."
