Arsenal kicked off their Premier League 2026-27 title defense in style with a dominant 3-0 victory over newly promoted Coventry City at the Emirates Stadium. Playing their first top-flight match in 25 years, Frank Lampard’s Coventry side faced a baptism of fire against the reigning champions. Kai Havertz opened the scoring in the 15th minute, coolly sweeping home a precise cross from Riccardo Calafiori. Summer signing Christos Tzolis then helped set up the second, pressing high before a sequence ended with Carl Rushworth parrying into the path of Bukayo Saka to tap in. Arsenal sealed the points shortly after the interval when captain Martin Ødegaard added a third in the 49th minute, his deflected effort wrong-footing the goalkeeper. Though Coventry fought hard and threatened late through substitutes like Jack Rudoni, the Gunners comfortably controlled possession to secure a clean sheet and an opening three points.
