Public toilets, much like public conscience, move with the times the world over—from His-Hers binary to Gents-Ladies-­Gender Neutral, for example. The allegory may not be flush with our standards of judging society, but it helps when a loo raises social stink. Like the ‘Men’, ‘Women’ and ‘Brahmin-only’ segregation at a toilet in Kuttumukku Mahadeva temple, Kerala. Apparently, temple officials say, the toilet is outside the shrine’s ‘main complex’, the signboards are two decades old and ‘that loo’ is reserved for priests. It’s been changed to ‘Staff-only’ now, but not before the old signage ran its full course on social media as the No. 2 trending item.
