In a resounding display of talent and determination, the Association for Learning Performing Arts & Normative Action (A.L.P.A.N.A.) recently hosted the eighteenth edition of SAMBHAV, a groundbreaking international event for Divyangjan (Persons with Disabilities). Held on the 18th and 19th of November 2023 at the prestigious India International Centre, New Delhi, SAMBHAV 2023 stood as a testament to the indomitable spirit and exceptional abilities of individuals with disabilities.

Under the distinguished patronage of H.E. Smt. Draupadi Murmu, the Hon’ble President of India, SAMBHAV 2023 shone a spotlight on the empowering journey of Divyang artists. President Murmu commended the relentless efforts of A.L.P.A.N.A., acknowledging their commitment to nurturing and showcasing the talents of those often overlooked by society.

A.L.P.A.N.A., a Delhi-based NGO, has been at the forefront of empowering individuals with disabilities since its inception in 2004. Through SAMBHAV, an annual international event launched in 2006, the organization has been providing a platform for Divyangjan to exhibit their skills, proving that their abilities transcend any perceived obstacles.

This year’s SAMBHAV, themed around holistic development and inclusive growth, saw participation from various countries including Australia, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Indonesia, Iran, Myanmar, Nepal, Russia, Sri Lanka, as well as several Indian states. The event featured an array of activities such as an International Seminar on “Divyang Artists with Disabilities for an inclusive society,” workshops on dance therapy, music therapy, art & craft, alongside captivating performances by Divyang artists.

The inauguration of SAMBHAV 2023 was graced by esteemed guests including Ms. Mamta Dubey, IFS, Former Head of Forest Force, Govt. of U.P., Ms. Nandita Gupta, IAS, Sr Advisor, CMO, Govt. of Himachal Pradesh, and other luminaries from diverse fields. The ceremonial lighting of the lamp symbolized the unity and shared aspirations of participants from various nations and cultures.

The event further witnessed the unveiling of an International Exhibition featuring paintings and artifacts crafted by Divyang artists, a testament to their creativity and prowess. Workshops conducted by renowned personalities like Padma Shri awardees Nalini & Kamalini Asthana, focusing on dance therapy, and sessions on yoga conducted by experts from S-Vyasa University, Bangalore, added depth to the event.

The highlight of the event was the International Seminar chaired by Padma Shri Dr. Uma Tuli, addressing pertinent issues through scholarly presentations from representatives of different nations. The seminar shed light on the impact of yoga on disabilities, presenting research papers from esteemed individuals across the globe.

Music Therapy workshops conducted by international experts further enriched the event, offering attendees valuable insights and experiences. The evenings were filled with captivating performances by Divyang artists, showcasing vibrant and mesmerizing displays of talent, energy, and cultural richness.

Dignitaries such as Shri Apurva Chandra, IAS, Secretary, I&B, Govt. of India, and Shri Tarun Bajaj, IAS, Former Revenue Secretary of India, graced the event, acknowledging the remarkable achievements of Divyang artists and emphasizing the need for inclusivity in society.
