There has been an interesting addition to the security of G20 summit to be held in Delhi later this year as Delhi Police has put in 19 women SWAT commandos for the all important event in the national capital.

The Delhi Police decided to send these 19 women, all commandos with its Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) unit in Zamrudpur, for the “marksman” course, reported The Indian Express.

The report said the decision was taken by Delhi Police Commissioner Sanjay Arora after his visit to SWAT unit a few months ago.

“After joining the Delhi Police in 2018, I was initially working with the PCR unit. Then we were asked if we were willing to join SWAT. I joined the unit and went through several training sessions. But recently, I was sent for a four-week training session in Karera, along with 18 colleagues, which has improved my shooting skills,” the report quoted SWAT commando Nisha Chaudhary, 27, as having said.

She also said: “My father is a farmer. I never imagined that I would be performing such an important job one day. I have seen marksmen in movies, but now, we are going to be deployed in key locations during the G20 summit.”

“It is a dream come true to work as a markswoman during such a prestigious event in our country. This training course was very useful and has increased my confidence,” another SWAT commando Kiran, a resident of Muzaffarnagar in Uttar Pradesh, who was the topper of the Delhi Police’s first batch of markswomen, was quoted as having said.

“We were trained for three months earlier too, but this course has polished our skills. Now, I am ready to give my 100 per cent,” Sukhwanti, a resident of Hisar in Haryana, another SWAT commando was quoted as having said.

The report said among the 19 women personnel, two were from Manipur and Assam.

It mentioned the course started on June 19 and ended on July 15.
