It’s been more than a month since amu historian I.G. Khan was found murdered under mysterious circumstances. A popular figure in Aligarh, Khan had fought for the rights of rickshaw-pullers and had taken on the builders’ mafia. His murder galvanised both the rickshaw-pullers and amu teachers to stage protests. More than 40 MPs have demanded a CBI inquiry into the murder. Says fellow historian Irfan Habib: "There is nothing remotely communal about his murder. Even the local BJP has passed a resolution demanding that the culprits be punished." Some think that a property dispute might be the motive behind the crime.
