The Jammu and Kashmir administration on Tuesday ordered to seal three more properties of the banned Jamaat-e-Islami (JeI), including a residential house  in the name of late Hurriyat Conference chairman Syed Ali Geelani.

Srinagar District Magistrate Mohammad Aijaz issued an order on Monday that the three properties owned or possessed by the banned JeI are to be notified under the Unwanted Activities (Prevention) Act — UAPA, according to officials.

This is the latest in the crackdown of JeI properties in Jammu and Kashmir. Earlier on Saturday, the J&K State Investigation Agency (SIA) attached 11 properties of Jamaat-e-Islami in Kashmir Valley. Of the 11 properties, three were attached in Baramulla, two in Kupwara, one in Baramulla, and five in Ganderbal.

On November 26, at least 11 properties belonging to Jamaat-e-Islami were notified and subsequently confiscated by District Magistrate of Anantnag after a recommendation was made to the court by SIA.

In Jammu, on November 17, the property of absconding Lashkar-e-Toiba commander Abdul Rashid alias  Jhangir was seized by the authorities in Khanpura tehsil of Thathri in Doda district of Jammu and Kashmir following a court order.

The police said Jhangir was a resident of Khanpura Tehsil in Phagsoo and he joined militancy and went to Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (POK) in 1993 to get arms training with the intention to carry out subversive activities.

The police further said, “After getting arms training in PAK/POK, he infiltrated and remained active in terror related activities in District Doda. He along with other dreaded and hardcore terrorists was found involved in [a] number of terrorist attacks on civilians/security forces and other terrorist incidents of arson, blasts, etc in the region. Apart from that, a number of youths of District Doda were instigated and recruited by him to join militancy in the nineties.

“Absconder Abdul Rashid @ Jhangir was involved in heinous terror related incidents while he was active in terror related activities in District Doda.”

The police said he was declared as absconder and subsequently as proclaimed offender by the order of the Court.
