The army truck ambush in Jammu and Kashmir's Poonch district on Thursday killed five soldiers while three others were injured, officials said. The army truck carrying jawans came under terrorist attack on Thursday in Jammu and Kashmir's Poonch district, said officials. According to them, the incident took place in the Savni area on the Thanamandi-Surankote road.

According to Jammu-based defence PRO Lt Col Suneel Bartwal, a joint search operation was launched in the general area of Dhera Ki Gali in the Thanamandi-Surankote region of Poonch district Wednesday night which deployed several soldiers.

The vehicle came under attack as the terrorists fired upon the Army vehicles, a truck and a Gypsy, when additional forces were moving to the site. Retaliating to the attack, the troops swiftly sprang into action.

The operation is in progress and further details are being ascertained, they added.

The ambush came weeks after a major gunfight in the Dharmsal belt of Bajimaal forest area in nearby Rajouri district that left five Army personnel, including two captains, dead last month
