India Summons Top British Diplomat In Delhi As 'Khalistani' Elements Take Down Indian Flag

According to reports, the Ministry of External Affairs has conveyed a strong message to the diplomat over the alleged incident at the Indian mission.

India summoned a senior-most British diplomat in Delhi on Sunday night over reports of some Khalistani elements bringing down the Indian flag at its High Commission in London.

According to a PTI report, the Ministry of External Affairs has conveyed a strong message to the diplomat over the alleged incident at the Indian mission.

Reportedly, the Deputy Chief of the UK high commission was summoned to the MEA as high commissioner Alex Ellis is out of Delhi.

Ellis took to Twitter to condemn the incident. "I condemn the disgraceful acts today against the people and premises of the @HCI_London - totally unacceptable," he tweeted.

The incident comes amid a massive hunt for Khalistan supporter Amritpal Singh. Police and security forces have been on the lookout for the separatist leader for the past 48 hours amid a crackdown on his radical organisation Waris Punjab De.

Meanwhile, cellular internet and SMS services have been shut down in Punjab till Monday noon. In an order, the Punjab Department of Home Affairs and Justice said it was "in the interest of public safety, to prevent any incitement to violence and to prevent any disturbance of peace and public order".
