Amid all the bad news in Gujarat, there are some good tidings. The Sardar Patel University in central Gujarat’s Vallabh Vidyanagar will soon have its own FM radio station. It has been cleared by the I&B ministry and is now awaiting final clearance from the home and defence ministries. The radio station will, however, serve only academic ends and will cover an 8-km radius. Divyang Dave, senior lecturer at the university’s department of electronics, where the station will be located, says all the programming will be done by students and faculty members. Sardar Patel University is the second institution, after Jammu University, to have its own radio station.
