As Delhi woke up to Christmas cheers on Monday, the festive spirit was overshadowed by dense fog that impacted visibility in various parts of the city, reaching a mere 125 meters and causing disruptions to daily life.

Flight operations at Delhi airport were notably affected as the dense fog brought visibility down to zero in some areas of the national capital. Passengers have been urged to stay updated on their flights by contacting their respective airlines for the latest information.

As many as eight flights were diverted from the Delhi airport on Monday morning due to bad weather, an official said. The flights were diverted between 6 am and 9 am, according to the official.

A total of seven flights were diverted to Jaipur in Rajasthan and one was diverted to Ahmedabad in Gujarat, the official said.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) reported a dip in the mercury to 9.4 degrees Celsius in Delhi. The low visibility, a result of the dense fog, led to widespread disruptions across the National Capital Region (NCR).

As the chilling cold tightened its grip on the national capital, residents sought refuge in night shelters scattered across various parts of the city.

Similar scenes unfolded in other areas, with locals gathering near fires in the Lodhi Road area to find solace from the biting cold.
