Supporters of BJP MLA Prakash Dwivedi have allegedly abused and threatened the Naraini sub-divisional magistrate (SDM), Amit Shukla in Mahuva block of Uttar Pradesh’s Banda district and assaulted his driver after a team led by the officer refused to release two impounded truckloads of sand late Sunday night.
The trouble started when Shukla was leading a check against illegal mining. His team stopped two trucks at Paigambarpur for carrying loads of sand and had them taken to a police outpost
A group of men later arrived in six cars, armed with sticks and rods. They surrounded the SDM's vehicle, shouted abuses, and hit the car, even trying to flip it over, according to a police complaint filed by the SDM’s driver, Kamta Prasad Mishra.
The driver stated that when he tried to step in, the men dragged him out of the car. They demanded he convince the SDM to release the seized trucks. When he refused, they threatened him again.
SDM Amit Shukla has directly claimed that MLA Prakash Dwivedi was at the scene with his supporters during the attack.
Following the driver’s complaint, the police have filed a First Information Report (FIR) against five named individuals and several other unidentified people. The serious charges include rioting, attempt to murder, and preventing a government officer from doing his duty.
So far, no arrests have been made. Police have stated that an investigation is in progress. They are reviewing CCTV footage and have sent the driver for a medical examination. When reporters tried to contact MLA Prakash Dwivedi, an aide who answered his phone denied all the accusations, calling them false.
