Is there a larger nato design in targeting Serbia?
The only reason can be to enlarge nato's presence in Europe. The question is not that of the autonomy of Kosovo and the human rights of the Albanian minority. Quite simply, it is a question of geo-strategic interests in Europe in the post-Cold War era. It's a tragic paradox that a nation which helped reduce antagonism between the main Cold War protagonists is now facing aggression.
What are the implications for the world?
This precedent can be dangerous for the world, because the existing international order under the UN's auspices is far from the desired ideal. nato justifies the action in the name of the international community. What international community are we talking of? Protests from Russia, China, India, Indonesia, Ukraine, South Africa, African and Latin American nations were ignored.
Yugoslavia has been accused of genocide in Kosovo.
No genocide was committed by Yugoslav forces. The US President tried to give the public an explanation by referring to previous cases of alleged Serbian aggression against Slovenia, Croatia and Bosnia. It is absolutely untrue. The Yugolsavia army intervened at the start of the civil war in Slovenia and Croatia within the former Yugoslavia. Thanks to international recognition of the forcible, unconstitutional secession, the war began in Bosnia.
The truth is there was no war in the present Yugoslavia until nato's aggression. In Kosovo there was fighting against terrorists. The humanitarian disaster isn't just in Kosovo, but in the whole of Yugoslavia, provoked by the criminals accusing us. The problem now for them is how to get out of the situation.
Who is funding the Kosovo Liberation Army?
KLA was trained and armed abroad, mainly in Albania. They had advisors from Germany, from some Muslim and European nations and the US.
From their governments?
There are many possibilities, the so-called ngos, humanitarian organisations.
Serbia finally let Slovenia, Bosnia and Croatia go. What special tie with Kosovo prevents that?
Kosovo is the cradle of our civilisation. It's been with Serbia for 13 centuries. It has 2,000 historical monuments, some were jeopardised in the aggression.
Will Yugoslavia capitulate?
We can be defeated temporarily, but we have never submitted and have never been destroyed. Our history has shown this.
So how does it end?
We are firmly for a peaceful political solution. This has been our position right from the beginning. We are victims of brutal, criminal aggression. We are ready to negotiate a political solution.
