Today, the global economies have grown by leaps and bounds, and cash flow has accelerated at an unprecedented rate.Amid the tailwinds, real estate investments have soared at an unimaginable pace. This has led to a highly competitive sector wherein each ticket is of commendable value and speed defines whose viability remains evident. A simple delay in calling back a potential lead or leaving a follow-up coldcan be the make-or-break situation in the highly competitive sector. As the digital age thrives, lead lifecycle tracking and marketing efforts are expected to be instantaneous and agile. Yet, a majority of real estate businesses still rely on traditional legacy systems like spreadsheets, text chats, personal notes, and non-integrated software to manage relationships worth crores.

Himanshu Kumar witnessed the disconnect firsthand.

Ahead of founding Leadrat – a revolutionary CRM specialised for the real estate sector in 2023 - Himanshu ideated a product that real estate professionals would find intuitive. A platform that solved real-world problems faced by diverse stakeholders in the sector instead of convoluting the existing problems and creating new ones. A couple of years since its founding, the bootstrapped company has emerged from conducting door-to-door visits in Pune to serving customers across India and expanding its presence into the Middle East, on the back of a fundamental vision - simplifying technology for everybody in the real estate industry globally.

Building from the Ground Up

Instead of following the other software companies’ approachthat relieson assuming the problems that the sector faces, Leadrat thought of leading by conversations.

Deeply invested in researching the real-world problems of the larger sector and all of its stakeholders, the team met with brokers, agents and developers on the ground for several months before writing a line of code. They went to the core of deeply understanding routine workflows, the stakeholders’ pain points, and identifying the reasons why the industry’s people rarely relied on existing CRM systems.

The challenge wasn't the absence of technology but the confusion that it brought in.Real estate is an industry where professionals come from diverse educational and professional backgrounds. Many successful brokers are exceptional salespeople but may not be comfortable navigating intricate enterprise software. The team realised that if using the CRM required extensive training, the product had already failed.

That insight became one of Leadrat's guiding principles - Technology should become invisible. Users should focus on selling properties than figuring out software.

Solving the Right Problems

The company identified three fundamental challenges that would define its product philosophy.

Initially, it was about making technology easy to adopt. Every feature had to simplify work. The software needed to fit naturally into the user’s existing workflow instead of inducing behavioural changes to their routine.

The second challenge was removing the education barrier. Anyone can enter the real estate business, and the CRM has to be equally accessible to experienced professionals and first-time users. The interface needed to feel modern, intuitive and engaging — almost as easy to use as social media.

The third challenge centred around customer success. In an industry where every minute matters, support couldn't operate on ticket numbers and waiting periods. Customers expected immediate action, and Leadrat built its service philosophy around real-time responsiveness that ultimately benefited the developers’ sales representatives, brokers, agents, etc., in turn contributing to the growth of the industry at large.

These weren't product features but the company's operating principles.

Pune - The First Testing Ground

Every startup has a birthplace, and for Leadrat, it was Pune. The city became their incubation centre to test new ideas. Undergoing criticism and observeevery customer complaint closely, as an opportunity to improve the product.

Focusing on solving every operational challenge end-to-end, every field visit uncovered new insights. Every client meeting helped the product improve into a better iteration. The product that Leadrat has become today was shaped by innumerable door-to-door visits, demonstrations and discussions with brokers who had every reason to be sceptical of another CRM platform.

The determination certainly led to fruition.

A staggering 70% of Leadrat's customers were a result of word-of-mouth referrals. The company's sturdiest marketing channel was satisfied customers voicing about platform to others.

Growing Beyond Borders

While Pune laid the foundation, the company's ambitions always were to be a scalable solution provider. Leadrat quickly expanded to serve the Indian Silicon Valley, with an office in Bengaluru. With an expanding presence in the country, Leadrat could scale up its operations effectively across India.

Having created a successful presence in the domestic market, Leadrat went on to expand its footprint and seamless customer service in the overseas real estate market. For Leadrat, the Middle East, particularly Dubai, proved to be the world's most notable real estate market, filled with competitiveness and opportunities.Entering the international markets demanded regulatory approvals, licensing and introducing the services to an entirely new customer base. Instead of using its India strategy, Leadrat adapted to the market's one-of-a-kind ecosystem, i.e. by recognizing the channel partners who play a crucial role in real estate sales.

Building an Ecosystem, not a CRM

As the company matured with time, so did its product vision. Leadrat evolved beyond being a lead management platform into a connected ecosystem addressing multiple stakeholders within the real estate value chain.

Its Channel Partner CRM addresses long-standing operational challenges that the industry kept facing. In Dubai, where a prominent share of transactions are led by brokers and channel partners – managing commissions, preventing duplicate lead claims, and maintaining transparency can be increasingly complicated. Streamlining collaboration and reducing disputes for all stakeholders, the platform has played a crucial role in resolving hurdles faced in the sector overseas.

The company has also expanded into developer-focused solutions with its Post Sales CRM, recently unveiled at dealclave – a first-of-a-kind real estate-focused event bringing all the stakeholders on the industry under one roof to discuss hurdles and opportunities in the coming times. Designed for developers, the platform streamlines operations post the sale of property, including inventory management, bookings, agreements, collections, among others.

Leadrat’s Forthcoming Transformation

Having developed a CRM through years of research to improve serviceability and help sales clock increased numbers, Leadrat through its journey has tried and understood the pulse of all the stakeholders in the real estate sector and grown to become a comprehensive CRM providing solution for everyone in the industry. Its journey underscores a fundamental value often overlooked by modern-day CRM firms, i.e., sustainable businesses are always built on strong foundation than vouching on inflated claims.

Learning and improving the product through continuous conversations with customers, retrofitting the product with insight-led improvements, mindful positioning, and the willingness to resolve practical problems before expanding reach to newer markets has helped Leadratgrow from a niche CRM solutions provider to helping the community to grow holistically.

With years of experience in serving the sector now, for Himanshu Kumar and his team, the objective remains unchanged from the initial days in Pune — simplifying CRM for everyone in real estate while building resilient, intelligent products that people in the real estate sector make an integral part of their workflows. As the company continues growing both domestically and internationally, its story is as a strong reminder of meaningful innovation that begins by deeply understanding the consumer’s pulse to carve out unthinkable opportunities.
