- It would consider extending the EU norms for packaged water, to be applicable from January 1, 2004, on carbonated drinks also.
- Soft drink companies would have to use better quality water for dispenser drinks, which were earlier not regulated at all.
- The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) would put in place elaborate norms for carbonated drinks. Till now, there were none. A meeting on August 18 decided to eventually align all carbonated drink norms with existing standards for water.
