Ayushmann Khurrana is all set to return with the sequel of his 2019 blockbuster comedy ‘Dream Girl’. However, in an interview with Bollywood Hungama, the actor revealed that he was initially unsure if Ananya Panday would be the right pick for the leading lady in ‘Dream Girl 2’.

“I was always thinking that she's an urban girl, and how she'd get accustomed to the milieu of Mathura, a city from tier-2 India. But she adapted really well. Every 10 km, the accent changes in our country. But she was bang on with the accent," Ayushmann mentioned.

However, he praised her for doing a great job. "If you're a Bombay girl, it's tough to catch those accents. Main toh phir bhi Hindi bolta hu, Hindi mein sochta hu toh mujhse phir bhi ho jata hai (I still manage to do it because I speak in Hindi, think in Hindi). But she's done a great job in the film,” Ayushmann added, saying that the audience has seen Ananya in the past also, with ‘Pati Patni Aur Woh’ (2019), doing a film set in Uttar Pradesh.

Meanwhile, coming to ‘Dream Girl’, the first instalment of the franchise, which was directed by Raaj Shaandilyaa, released back in 2019. It starred Ayushmann Khurrana as a  late night caller who seduces lonely men in a woman's voice. Set in Mathura, the film had the actor playing the part of Pooja, the character he makes up.

Nushrrat Bharuccha played the female lead in ‘Dream Girl’. However, in the sequel, Ayushmann is also seen cross-dressing as a woman to con a bunch of lonely men, with Ananya Panday in the lead role opposite him. Annu Kapoor will reprise his role of Ayushmann's father with Vijay Raaz and Abhishek Banerjee, who were among the lonely men, returning in their roles in the sequel.
