For the past couple of days, there have been speculations that Shah Rukh Khan has been approached to lead ‘Dhoom 4’, which is the fourth instalment of the hit action-packed Dhoom franchise, backed by Yash Raj Films. However, now as per sources close to the development, the news is “unfounded”.

There have been rumours of Dhoom 4 going on floors for several years, but the star cast of the film has not been locked and SRK has not yet been approached for the part. “The news of Shah Rukh Khan starring in Dhoom 4 is unfounded. Nothing is locked yet,” Indian Express quoted a source as saying.

In fact, there was also news that Shah Rukh Khan and Ram Charan would headline Dhoom 4, but clearly, there are no substantial details about the film’s cast yet.

To say the least, ‘Dhoom’ is one of the most successful film franchises of YRF, which began in 2004 with Dhoom, starring John Abraham and Abhishek Bachchan in the lead roles. The film’s story was about a gang of robbers on motorbikes who carry out robberies in Mumbai.

It was followed by 2006 film Dhoom 2 that had Hrithik Roshan, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan along with Abhishek. The third part, which was released in 2013, starred Aamir Khan and Katrina Kaif in key roles.

Coming to Shah Rukh Khan, he was last seen in Rajkumar Hirani's ‘Dunki’. Released on December 21, the film revolves around the issue of immigration. Its title is taken from the term "donkey journey", which means taking dangerous routes across the world that people take to reach the countries they want to immigrate to.

The film also stars Taapsee Pannu, Vicky Kaushal, Boman Irani, Vikram Kochhar and Anil Grover. Presented by JIO Studios and Rajkumar Hirani Films, it has received mixed reviews from the audience.
