Regardless of details and of the nature of evolution between successive chapters in history, the lessonderived is that the present of any nation or people cannot be isolated from its past...

Among the lessons gained from the history of mankind there is the fact that greed and arrogance combinedlead the oppressor to do injustice not only to others but to himself as well, once this union of greed andarrogance has misled him into a sense of undefeatable power...

Proceeding from this sick imagination, he commits the most heinous of acts and then falls down theprecipice into hell.

One of the lessons of recent and distant history is that all empires and bearers of the coffin of evil, whenever they mobilised their evil against the Arab nation or the Muslim world, were themselves buried intheir own coffin along with their sick dreams, arrogance and greed...

This has been the case with all empires preceding our time. If this is what history tells us about itsjudgement on all past eras without exception, those who are trying to ignore history now can only be describedin terms which no wise or prudent person would wish.

This is the inevitable outcome awaiting all those who try to attack Arabs and Muslims. If anyone - withgreed, arrogance and vanity combined - wants to learn from history, he ought to remember this fact and thinkagain. Otherwise, he will end up in the dustbin of history...

We have never, and will never, face any aggression with the power of our weapons or the strength of ourmuscles, but with the strength of our faith and our belief that God always makes the faithful victoriousthrough right against wrong...

Our mother and father are the nation and the homeland. It is on the basis of these meanings and what wehave learnt from history that we took our stand in 1980 [the start of the war against Iran] to defend ourpeople and nation against those who sought to enslave them, put them in chains and leave them to decay.

The Iraqi people and army have been led in the same way by those who led them against the aggression andarrogance of the United States and its willing and unwilling allies from 17 January 1991, the day of theMother of All Battles, until today.

In this way, the faithful shall remain steadfast. Darkness shall be defeated. Clouds carrying no usefulrain shall clear. And the sun shall shine ushering in an endless spring, blessed by God...

The forces of evil shall carry their coffins and die of their disgraceful failure, with their schemesbackfiring on their countries. Or they will dig their own graves after they bring death unto themselves onevery Arab or Muslim land, including Iraq - the land of jihad, the flying flag and an honourable stance - thatthey attack.

The right path is for the Security Council to respond to Iraq's questions and honour its obligations underits own resolutions.

Those who use threats and aggression will only fail, even if they hit their targets...

I say this in such clear terms so that no weakling might imagine that our refusal to respond to ill talk isa sign of fear of the impudent threats.
