'A Victory For The People Of Nepal'

The Government of India welcomes the developments in Nepal towards therestoration of multiparty democracy and the handing over of political power tothe representatives of the people of Nepal. We await the convening of therevived House of Representatives and the installation of a government asindicated by the seven party alliance. This is a victory for the people ofNepal, who have displayed extraordinary courage and reaffirmed their faith andcommitment to freedom and democracy. The future of Nepal is safe in their hands.

We are conscious of the challenges that lie ahead for Nepal as it embarks on thejourney towards restoring political stability, achieving economic recovery andfinding a peaceful solution to the armed conflict. These challenges will requirethe positive contribution of all concerned, drawing upon the support of thepeople of Nepal. As a close friend and neighbour, India has all along stood bythe people of Nepal in their unrelenting struggle for the restoration of theirdemocratic rights. We are ready to render unstinted support to the people ofNepal in whatever manner they wish. India wishes to see the emergence of apeaceful, stable and prosperous Nepal and will contribute to this end to thebest of its ability and resources.
