Bangladesh started the day at 98/4 in Durban. The visitors lost nightwatchman Taskin Ahmed early but Liton Das and Mahmudul Hasan Joy ensured that there were no further setbacks with an 80-plus stand for the fifth wicket in the first session. Bangladesh lost Liton early after lunch but Joy stood like a rock at the other end negating the South African bowlers with his calm and composed batting. The right-hander put on valuable partnerships with Yasir Ali, Mehidy Hasan and Khaled Ahmed to take the team closer to 300-mark. Bangladesh finished at 298 with Joy being the last man to be dismissed at 137. He also became the first Bangladeshi batter to score a Test ton against South Africa. Simon Harmer, who took four wickets on Day 2, was unsuccessful on Day 3 while Lizaad Williams took three wickets. In reply, South Africa were 6/0 when bad light stopped play.
