And we’re underway at the Monaco Diamond League 2025 with the men’s pole vault. All eyes are on Armand Duplantis as the competition begins. One of the athletes has chosen to pass the opening height of 5.47m, opting to start higher in the progression.

We’ve got movement in the women’s shot put. Sarah Mitton, the reigning Diamond League champion, steps into the circle and delivers a beauty, 20.00m on the dot. That’s the first 20-metre throw of the evening and it puts her right at the top in round two.

Clear lead for now, the pressure’s on the rest of the field.

Here we go, Armand Duplantis steps up for his first jump of the night at 5.62m and, no surprises, he sails over with ease. Absolute cakewalk for the pole vault king, smooth, clean, and never in doubt. The crowd gives a cheer, but they know this is just a warm-up for what’s to come.

What a debut from the young Australian! Gout Gout lives up to the hype, powering through the curve and holding strong down the straight to clock 20.10, just shy of his personal best. Cool, composed, and totally unfazed by the big stage, he takes the win in style. That’s how you announce yourself on the international scene!

Strong Run From Animesh Kujur
India’s Animesh Kujur finishes fourth with a solid 20.55. It’s not his personal best, but a gutsy effort from the 20-year-old in a tough field. He was right in the mix until the final stretch and clocked his second-best time ever. Big stage experience in the bag, and a name we’ll be hearing more of soon.

What a dramatic finish to the women’s shot put. Just when it looked like Chase Jackson or Sarah Mitton would walk away with the win, Jessica Schilder delivers a clutch final throw, 20.39m in the Final 3. That late surge takes her straight to the top, snatching victory and sealing her second Diamond League win of the season.

Femke Bol lit up the track in Monaco, storming to a world-leading 51.95 in the women’s 400m hurdles to kick off the main programme in style. It’s her first win in Monaco, her 28th Diamond League victory, and a new meet record to top it off.

Bol looked effortless as she powered to the finish, then celebrated with a selfie alongside fellow Dutch winner Jessica Schilder, turning the night into an early Dutch party at Stade Louis II.

What a run from Emmanuel Wanyonyi. The Olympic and Diamond League champ blew the field away in the men’s 800m, crossing the line in 1:41.44, the fastest time in the world this year, a new meet record, and the 10th fastest ever. Cool, calm, and completely in control, Wanyonyi made it look easy out there.

A bit of early drama in the men’s 110m hurdles as Wilhelm Belocian jumps the gun and is disqualified. But once they’re reset, Trey Cunningham wastes no time stamping his authority. The American, fresh off a win in Paris, keeps the momentum going with a smooth 13.09 to take the win.

Cordell Tinch stumbles slightly over the hurdles but holds on for second, enough to punch his ticket to the Diamond League Final in Zurich.

Armand Duplantis means business tonight. After casually skipping 5.72m and 5.82m, he steps in at 5.92m, and sails over it like it’s nothing. The bar’s rising, and so is the tension. Monaco might just witness something special again.

Armand Duplantis adds yet another milestone to his glittering resume, and this time, it’s Monaco. One of the few meets he hadn’t ruled yet, but no more. He clears 6.05m with ease, smashing Piotr Lisek’s 2019 mark by three centimetres and setting a new Diamond League meeting record.

Karalis gives it a shot at 6.10m after falling short at 6.05m, hoping to challenge Duplantis but the Greek vaulter can’t quite make it happen. Two failed attempts and he’s out, which means Mondo has the win wrapped up. But he’s not done yet. The bar is going up to a massive 6.29m, yes, the world record. Classic Duplantis move. Buckle up.

All eyes are on the track as the men’s 200m lines up, and it’s a blockbuster field. Olympic champions Noah Lyles and Letsile Tebogo are in the blocks, the crowd is on its feet, and the atmosphere is electric. This one’s been circled on the schedule, time for the sprinters to bring the heat.

Tebogo came out flying, putting the pressure on early as he stormed around the bend with Lyles right on his shoulder. The two were locked in a tight battle, but once they hit the home straight, Lyles did what he does best, switched on the afterburners.

He powered through the final metres to pull clear and take the win in 19.88, his fastest of the season. Calm, composed, and just too quick when it mattered.

We’re just about ready for the men’s 3000m steeplechase, and yep, it’s time for Avinash Sable to hit the track. The Indian star is lining up alongside a top-class field, and you can feel the anticipation building. Big race, big moment. Let’s see what Sable’s got tonight.

Julien Alfred closed out the night with a commanding win in the women’s 100m, easing into her stride late to clock 10.79 and secure her third victory of the season, a perfect response after last weekend’s defeat in Eugene.

Over in the men’s pole vault, there was no world record this time as Mondo Duplantis missed all three attempts at 6.29m, but he still walked away with a strong 6.05m clearance and a new meet record to his name.
