Imagine the mighty BCCI without a single politician: no Pawar, no Shukla, no Jaitley, no Thakur. Imagine the world’s richest cricket body with able professionals running the show. Imagine its elections being free and fair: no multiple votes, no proxies. Imagine players running the show and bringing back glory: no murky selections, no conflicts of interest. Imagine betting on matches openly and cleanly: no match-fixing, no spread betting. That is precisely what Justice Rajendra Mal Lodha wants cricket fans, fanatics and followers to do with his recommendations. He wants the entire community to help in dismantling the corruption, nepotism and lack of accountability that the old boys erected. The sage advice may yet be binned by the BCCI’s lawyers, but at least the former Supreme Court chief justice has given us the pleasure of re-imagining this glorious game the way we have not been able to these past few years. Well played, sir.
