Former International Cricket Umpire Piloo Reporter Dies Aged 84

Former international cricket umpire Piloo Reporter is no more. He passed away on Sunday. He was 84. (More Cricket News)

In his long cricketing career, Reporter stood in 14 Tests and 22 ODI matches that saw him span for 28 years.

In 1986, Pakistan skipper Imran had invited him and another Indian official, V K Ramaswamy, to officiate a match between the home side and the West Indies, making them the first neutral umpires since 1912.

Moreover, Reporter was also one of the umpires during the 1992 World Cup.

Before taking up the role of an umpire, Reporter was an employee with the Maharashtra State Electricity Board, and that's when the then Bombay Cricket Association, had put up an advertisement to recruit new umpires.

Reporter failed to clear the tests but later, he was on the field officiatiing local games. After a while, Reporter did get the nod and was roped in to officiate in the Ranji Trophy, that followed by some international games as well.
