Waltzing through his second qualifying match, India's singles tennis spearhead Sumit Nagal made his way into the final round of Australian Open 2024 qualifying at Melbourne Park on Thursday, January 11, 2024. The 26-year-old beat wild card Edward Winter from Australia in straight sets at the KIA Arena. The scoreline read 6-3, 6-2 in a one-sided match that lasted one hour and four minutes.

Happy with the win, Nagal posted on social media platform X: "Glad to be moving forward in Melbourne. We go again tomorrow."

Nagal will now take on Alex Molcan of Slovakia in the final round on Friday for a place in the men's singles round of 128. If Nagal, who is currently ranked 139th in the world, wins his next match, it will confirm his fourth Grand Slam main draw appearance and his first since 2021.

The man from Jhajjar had entered the main round of the US Open in 2019 and 2020, and then made the cut for the Australian Open main draw in 2021.
