- 63 rural hotspots identified so far in the government’s Incredible Rural India tourism promotion plan.
- Includes villages in Himachal, Uttaranchal, W. Bengal, UP and Sikkim
- Rs 50 lakh to be given to each village for projects such as improving roads and village homes to accommodate tourists, training locals in basic hygiene and cooking skills, teaching them social skills and aids awareness, marketing rural handicrafts.
- Villagers have a say in deciding how the funds will be spent, and will keep the profits from rural tourism
- Another 50 villages are in the process of being identified
