Telangana Congress initiated disciplinary action against several leaders over alleged “anti-party” remarks.
Konda Surekha received a show-cause notice over comments made by her daughter against CM Revanth Reddy.
The party also issued notices to other leaders and suspended Jakkidi Prabhakar Reddy.
The Telangana Congress on Thursday took disciplinary action against several leaders over alleged “anti-party” and “anti-chief minister” remarks, as internal differences within the state unit widened.
TPCC president B Mahesh Kumar Goud said Endowments Minister Konda Surekha was served a show-cause notice over remarks made by her daughter, Konda Sushmita, against Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy.
Speaking at Surekha’s birthday celebrations in Parkala, Warangal district, Sushmita claimed the Konda family had helped project Revanth Reddy for the TPCC president’s post and introduce him to the Congress high command, Hindustan Times reported.
“After becoming the chief minister, power has gone to his head and he has forgotten those who supported him during his political rise,” she alleged.
The TPCC disciplinary committee, headed by Nagarkurnool MP Mallu Ravi, also issued a notice to former minister and Telangana State Planning Board vice-chairman G Chinna Reddy over allegations that he accused the party leadership of selling tickets during the last Assembly elections.
Senior Congress leader Jakkidi Prabhakar Reddy was suspended over alleged personal and caste-related remarks against party leaders. Show-cause notices were also issued to Kandi Srinivas Reddy and party leader Sanjay over comments made during a DCC Political Affairs Committee meeting in Utnoor.
“These leaders have been asked to submit their explanations within three days. The Congress high command has taken serious note of the rising voices of rebellion within the Telangana Congress in the recent past. The party views these comments as a violation of the party line,” Goud told reporters in Nizamabad.
Surekha later submitted her response, distancing herself from her daughter’s remarks.
“Holding me responsible for my daughter’s statements is contrary to the principles of natural justice,” she said, maintaining that Sushmita’s comments reflected her personal views.
