A poster bearing a cartoon figure resembling Leader of Opposition in West Bengal Assembly Suvendu Adhikari surfaced in parts of Bankura district on Thursday. In the poster, information was sought from people about the whereabouts of any such "spineless person".

The poster, which has the words 'information wanted' inscribed on top, also describes the cartoon figure with a saffron scarf as someone who speaks "nonsense and frequently issues threats to topple the state government". The poster, carrying the name of TMC IT Cell, came up in Machantala, College More, district administrative building, a police official said.

Adhikari had, in recent times, said the TMC would receive a major jolt in December and also predicted that a very influential leader of the TMC will be caught by January 14 next year, inviting scorn from the West Bengal's ruling party. The poster also describes the cartoon figure that resembles Adhikari of the BJP as one "who lunges forward on hearing the name of Abhishek Banerjee", the national general secretary of the TMC.

Local Trinamool Congress leader Tirthankar Kundu said, "The poster was out in response to Adhikari's irresponsible and inconsistent statement in recent times, threatening the TMC government. He predicted the fall of the TMC government in December, which did not happen". The BJP leader could not be reached for his comments.

December assumed significance on Bengal’s political landscape after Adhikari and several other BJP leaders repeatedly stressed that the TMC government would cease to exist by the end of the year. Adhikari, the Nandigram MLA, had also listed three dates -- December 12, 14 and 21 -- and asked people to watch out for significant political developments in West Bengal.

BJP MLA from Bankura Sadar, Niladri Sekhar Dana, said "The TMC is resorting to such cheap theatrics as the party finds its support base eroding all across West Bengal". "Those in the TMC, who are resorting to such gimmicks, are secretly trying to join the BJP. But we will not induct everyone from them," he said.

After making multiple claims about major threats looming on the TMC government in December, Adhikari had on Wednesday, in a U-turn, said his party would never poach opposition MLAs and wait for the next election to seize power in the state.
