Sanjay, who was stationed at the Bengaluru Basavanagudi police station, was reportedly involved in an extramarital affair with a Home Guard named Rani, who also served at the same police station, according to media reports.
The situation escalated when Sanjay, who was already married, discovered Rani's involvement in communication with another individual. Tensions reached a boiling point on Wednesday when Sanjay visited Rani to persuade her to reconsider their relationship after a heated argument.
Adding a shocking twist to the confrontation, Sanjay, armed with petrol, threatened to set himself on fire if Rani refused to reconcile. During this intense moment, it is alleged that Rani took matters into her own hands and set Sanjay ablaze.
