Gangster Sanjeev Maheshwari Jeeva was shot dead outside a courtroom in Uttar Pradesh's Lucknow on Wednesday, police said as reported by news agency PTI. He was gunned down by unknown assailant in the presence of police personnel on court premises.
"Sanjeev Maheshwari Jeeva who was held in Lucknow jail was brought to the court for hearing in a case and was shot dead by an unknown assailant," said Lucknow Police Commissioner S B Shiradkar who reached the court premises shortly after the incident. The assailant was apparently dressed as a lawyer.
According to media reports, a young girl was also injured in the incident.

Jeeva was a close aide of gangster-politician Mukhtar Ansari and was a co-accused in the murder case of BJP leader Brahmhadatt Dwivedi.
