US President-elect Donald Trump has asked the Supreme Court of the United States to pause his sentencing in the hush money trial. Trump's request comes ahead of his inauguration in January 20 for a second term at the White House.

Furthermore, Trump's request is also highly unusual and comes against the backdrop of SCOTUS' ruling on presidential immunity in July 2024.

As per Trump's attorneys, the pause is needed "to prevent grave injustice and harm to the institution of the presidency and the operations of the federal government.”

As per reports, the Republican leader's appeal comes a day after a state appeals court in New York rejected his request to postpone the sentencing.

The sentencing against Trump in the hush money trial is set for Friday - January 10, 2025.

As per the leader's lawyers, some of the evidence used in the trial focused on official actions he took during his term at the White House, hence the call for immunity.

Weeks before his second term as POTUS, Trump continues to deny these charges.
